How to Unlock a PDF
- Add the PDF: choose the locked file (up to 50 MB). If it only has print, copy or edit restrictions, it is unlocked straight away.
- Enter the password: if the PDF needs a password to open, type it in. It is used only inside your browser and never saved.
- Download: the unlocked copy opens without a password and has no restrictions. Your original file is not changed.
Your File and Password Never Leave Your Device
- No upload: the PDF is unlocked inside your browser tab and is never sent to a server. That matters for bank statements, salary slips and ID documents.
- Password not saved: it is used once to open the file and is never stored or sent anywhere.
- No sign-up, free. Your original file is not changed; you download a new, unlocked copy.
- Works offline after you have used the tool once.
What People Unlock
- Bank statements for loan, visa or rental applications.
- Salary slips and Form 16 for tax filing and job applications.
- e-Aadhaar, e-PAN and other e-documents for KYC uploads.
- Exam scorecards and certificates that block printing or copying.
Many upload portals reject password-protected PDFs, or fail with a vague "invalid file" error. Unlock the file first, then upload it. If the portal also has a size limit, compress the unlocked PDF next.
Two Kinds of PDF Lock
- Open password: the PDF asks for a password before it shows anything. Type the password you use to open it; the tool removes it. It does not guess passwords.
- Permissions lock: the PDF opens normally but blocks printing, copying or editing. This lock is removed straight away, with no password.
The tool uses qpdf, an open-source PDF tool, compiled to run in your browser. It removes the encryption and keeps the pages, text, images and form fields as they were.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to unlock a PDF here?
Yes. The PDF and its password are processed inside your browser and are never uploaded or saved. After the tool has been used once, it also works offline.
Can you unlock a PDF if I forgot the password?
No. For a PDF that asks for a password to open, you need to know the password. The tool removes a password you enter; it does not guess or crack passwords. Ask whoever sent the file, or download it again from the source.
Can I unlock a bank statement or salary slip here?
Yes, if you know its password (it is usually given in the email the statement came with). The statement is unlocked inside your browser and is never uploaded, so your account details stay on your device.
Will the unlocked PDF look the same?
In almost every case, yes: the encryption is removed and the pages, text, images and form fields are kept as they were. If the tool had to use its backup method, the result screen says so; check the pages before you upload the file.
Does unlocking affect a digital signature?
Yes. A digitally signed PDF (such as e-Aadhaar) changes when the password is removed, so a PDF reader will no longer show the signature as valid. The content stays the same. If a portal needs the original signed file, upload that instead.
Is there a file size limit?
Files up to 50 MB can be unlocked. Large files need enough free memory on your device.
